The Pratie Heads

For nearly three decades, the duo of Bob Vasile and Jane Peppler, together known as the Pratie Heads, have been collaborating on their blend of Irish, Scottish, English, and early American songs and dance tunes. During this time, Vasile and Peppler--both as the Pratie Heads and in collaboration with other artists--have recorded over 20 albums, and have appeared at countless festivals, concerts, and workshops.

In the mid-1980s, the Pratie Heads toured extensively as part of the North Carolina Touring Artists program, and their Smithsonian Institution-sponsored St. Patrick's Day performance at this time (as part of the Associate Artist Series) was broadcast internationally on the influential Voice of America radio program.

Individually, Peppler and Vasile keep extremely busy. Peppler--who plays fiddle, viola, concertina, and piano, and sings--performs with the world music band Mappamundi, directs the Triangle Jewish Chorale, and owns Skylark Productions, a recording company. In addition, she taught ensemble singing at Duke University for two decades and established Durham's Solstice Extravaganza in the late 1980s, a popular event that she produced for seven years.

Guitarist, singer, and bouzouki player Vasile spent six years as a member of Freyda and Acoustic Atta-tude, during which time he shared the stage with such acclaimed performers as Tony Rice and Béla Fleck. He also taught guitar in West Virginia's Augusta Heritage program, and played at the Winnipeg Folk Festival and the Black Mountain Music Festival. In 2004, one of Vasile's original compositions was featured in the magazine Fingerstyle Guitar, and another appeared on National Public Radio's All Things Considered.

The Pratie Heads' most recent album, Rag Faire, was released in December of 2006, and was celebrated with a Triangle Folk Music Society-sponsored performance in January of the following year. Most recently, the duo has begun to play for wedding ceremonies, and keeps an active concert schedule around the Triangle region.
