The Steel Wheels have played for PineCone audiences as a part of the Down Home Series and at IBMA’s World of Bluegrass. They make their home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and when we’re lucky, bring their tasty blend of roots, bluegrass and Americana down to Raleigh.
During the pandemic lead singer Trent Wagler launched a fan-centered project called “Distance Together.” The band invited fans to commission songs and send musical greetings to friends and family. In addition to bringing in some much needed income during quarantine, Wagler says it inspired a whole new way of writing a song. The process is documented in a podcast called “We Made You a Song.” In the podcast Wagler interviews band members and the subjects of each of the songs he wrote during the project.
The Steel Wheels are Trent Wagler, banjo; Eric Brubaker, fiddle; Kevin Joaquin Garcia, drums; Derek Kratzer, bass.
