Q: What is PineCone?
A: The Piedmont Council of Traditional Music – a nonprofit organization that provides concerts & music programs celebrating the roots music of North Carolina and beyond, including:
• concerts in Raleigh, Cary, Wake Forest, Durham;
• Bluegrass Camps for Youth in Cary (open to non-Cary residents, too; coming up in the summer - registration typically begins in February)
• jam sessions for bluegrass, Irish, and Shape Note music;
• a weekly radio show on Sunday nights on WQDR 94.7-FM (which also streams online at QDR’s website)
• the Wide Open Bluegrass Festival in downtown Raleigh coming up Oct. 3-4, 2014, in partnership with the International Bluegrass Music Association and the City of Raleigh
• and more!

Q: What concerts and events do you have coming up, and where?
A: PineCone has free and ticketed concerts coming up in Raleigh, Cary, and Wake Forest:

  • The PineCone Bluegrass Jam meets the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Busy Bee Cafe in downtown Raleigh
  • The Irish Music Session meets weekly at Tir na nOg Irish Pub in downtown Raleigh
  • The Shape Note Sing meets on the second Sunday of the month at the First Presbyterian Church in Durham, and the fourth Sunday of the month at the Friends Meeting House in Raleigh.

Q: Do you ever need volunteers?
A: Yes! You can help out at PineCone concerts, represent PineCone at an information table at various events, help out during the Bluegrass Camps for Youth, and more! Find out about volunteer opportunities by signing up to be on the PineCone volunteer e-mail list!

Q: What is the musicians’ opportunities e-newsletter?
A: That is a periodic newsletter PineCone sends out for musicians that includes opportunities to perform, attend business conferences, apply for showcases, master classes and workshops, and more. Sign up to receive information about opportunities for musicians right in your e-mail inbox!

Q: What are the benefits of joining PineCone?
A: PineCone members receive:

  • pre-sale opportunities for PineCone concerts (and occasionally pre-sale offers for non-PineCone concerts, too),
