PineCone Staff & Board of Directors


PineCone employs a full-time Executive Director, Communications & Programs Manager, and Membership Coordinator, and is governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors. William Lewis

William Lewis hails from Greene County, Georgia, and has lived and worked in North Carolina since 1993. He holds a Master's degree in Folklore from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor's degree in Applied Anthropology from Appalachian State University. He serves on the Board of Directors for South Arts and the International Bluegrass Music Association. He has published articles related to NC music traditions in the Folklife Volume of The New Encyclopedia of Southern Culture (UNC Press) and The North Carolina Folklore Journal; and has served as a speaker, panelist, and moderator at numerous statewide, national, and international conferences. As PineCone's Executive Director, William Lewis is responsible for the overall booking and coordination of PineCone events, all administrative functions, fundraising and financial monitoring, supervision of staff, and professional representation of the organization.

Jamie Katz Court moved to North Carolina in 2004 from Portage, Michigan. She has a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from Northwestern University, but once she discovered her passion for working in the arts, she never looked back. Jamie is responsible for coordinating the logistical aspects of PineCone programs, education and outreach, marketing and promotions, and communications, including writing the monthly Traditional Review newsletter for PineCone members and maintaining PineCone's website. She also compiles and sends out the bi-monthly musicians opportunities e-newsletter.

Courtney Wheeler, a native North Carolinian, grew up in the mountains of Boone. She is a longtime fan of traditional music and has been a Merlefest Volunteer Team Leader for 20 years and counting. She graduated from Salem College with a Bachelors Degree in Communication & Not-for-Profit Management and moved to the Raleigh area in 2008. Courtney is an alumni of the International Bluegrass Music Association's Leadership Bluegrass class of 2013. Courtney is responsible for assisting with PineCone's box office operations, membership relations, volunteer and database management.
