2015 – A Celebration of Bluegrass with Lynda, Charles & Pattie

Concert

Students from PineCone’s and the Town of Cary’s Bluegrass Camps for Youth will take center stage at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center, and so will their instructors! After the students perform, Lynda Dawson, Pattie Hopkins Kinlaw, Charles Pettee, and special guest Jef Walter will perform together, sharing both traditional and original songs featuring lead and harmony vocals from all four. It is always a treat to watch these seasoned performers share their passion and music from the stage after a week spent passing along their craft, knowledge, and skills to the next generation during the camp.

Students are spending the week learning bluegrass styles of fiddle, guitar, and songwriting, and this concert gives them the opportunity to demonstrate what they’ve learned over the course of the camps for their families, friends, and the whole community.

The camp includes students ages 8-16 learning guitar, fiddle, and songwriting. Pettee is teaching the beginner and intermediate guitar tracks, Kinlaw is instructing the students in the beginner and intermediate fiddle sessions, and Dawson is teaching beginner and intermediate songwriting. Friday’s culminating concert is a highlight of the program for both the audience and students showcasing accomplishments from the week. Come prepared to be inspired!

Dawson and Kinlaw perform as the duo Lynda and Pattie, and Pettee and Walter perform together as part of the band Charles Pettee and the Iron Mountain Messengers; this special concert will be a rare opportunity to see these four talented musicians performing together as part of the Town of Cary’s Starlight Concert Series.

Share an evening celebrating one of North Carolina’s cultural treasures – bluegrass – with your friends, families, and community. Bring blankets, cushions, lawn chairs, picnic baskets (no alcohol!), and enjoy an evening of live music under the stars.
