Students from PineCone’s and the Town of Cary’s Bluegrass Camps for Youth will take center stage at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center, followed by a performance by Ash Breeze Band as part of the Town of Cary’s Starlight Concert Series.
Students ages 8-16 will have spent a week learning bluegrass styles of fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and songwriting, and this concert gives them the opportunity to demonstrate what they’ve learned over the course of the camps for their families, friends, and the whole community. At the end of the week, this culminating concert is a highlight of the program for both the audience and students showcasing accomplishments from the week. Come prepared to be inspired!
NC’s own Ash Breeze has been making a big splash in the Americana/bluegrass world since 2013. Trained classically until they switched to bluegrass in 2010, they have created their own sound that defies labels. In their music you can hear many influences, including folk, jazz, bluegrass, classical, blues, and Christian music blended into a distinctive sound that is strong on instrumentation with tight, beautiful family harmonies. Nellie is quickly making a name for herself with her strong, beautiful, soulful singing and smooth, melodic, award winning fiddle playing that has been greatly influenced by greats like Stuart Duncan and Andy Leftwich. Corey plays the guitar and sings and has a great style of his own that finds its way into the original music he writes. Corey is also the producer of Generation Bluegrass, a bluegrass video project that is drawing a lot of attention. Luke plays banjo and the cajon with a steady, polished style. Eli plays mandolin with speed and finesse that is beyond his years, and he also sings harmony vocals. Nellie and Luke have competed in and won in their categories in the Youth Division at the prestigious Galax Fiddlers Convention in Galax, Virginia. Finally, Allen (Dad) tries to keep it all together on bass.
