Bloomsbury, Raleigh’s oldest string band, returns to their roots with a fundraiser concert celebrating PineCone’s 30th anniversary. Going back to the roots of the band’s formation as a folk group in 1969, the concert will be held at Pullen Baptist Church, where the founding members of Bloomsbury first met.
Starting at 7 p.m., join us in the Fellowship Hall for “Sweets and Jam,” a dessert reception and jam session open to all concert attendees. And a special thanks to our reception sponsors, the Busy Bee Cafe (host of the PineCone Bluegrass Jam – 2nd & 4th Mondays of each month), Videri Chocolate (a chocolatier based in downtown Raleigh specializing in handmade bean-to-bar chocolate), The Square Rabbit (a Raleigh institution for take-out meals for lunch & dinner – located on the corner of Martin & Wilmington streets in downtown Raleigh), Empire Eats, and The Cookie People (look for them at area farmers markets, including the Downtown Raleigh Farmers’ Market, which kicks off on Wednesday, April 30, on Fayetteville St, and the NC Farmers’ Market off Lake Wheeler Road)!

Since each band member enjoys a full-time profession other than music, Bloomsbury performances are rare and special occurrences. As those of you who attended last year’s Bloomsbury concert know, when these good friends reunite to share their passion for roots music, wherever they’re playing becomes a special place to be, hearkening back to Raleigh’s roots and days gone by. And for those who have never heard them play together before, you are in for a treat!
For more than 40 years, Bloomsbury has performed its eclectic blend of acoustic music at clubs and picnics, as well as for business conventions, numerous charitable fundraisers, political events and sheer fun. With tight vocal blends and a constant swapping of instruments, Bloomsbury stays true to the folk songs of the 1960s on which they were founded. Over the years, they have expanded their set list to include a broad range of popular songs, gospel and bluegrass standards, and old-time fiddle tunes.
After the concert, the celebration continues at the Players Retreat pool room (PR to the locals!) for a meet-and-greet with some of the band members, and perhaps a post-concert jam!
