July’s weather cancellation has become a September CD release concert! The Brian Horton Quartet’s new album, Brand New Day, will be available in September and features Horton on saxophones and flute, Ernest Turner on piano, Ameen Saleem on bass, and Kobie Watkins on drums. Horton’s ensembles consistently rock the music scene with gritty originals and spontaneous live shows for changing times. In 2010, they were voted the Best Jazz Band in the Triangle by the Independent Weekly. A versatile and prolific artist, Horton’s most recent CD, New Morning Lullabies, which was released earlier this year, features blues and ballads, with Horton on the saxaphone and Kelvin Sholar on piano. Joining Horton for this CD release concert will be Ernest Turner (piano), Ameen Saleem (bass), and Jaimeo Brown (drums). Listen to samples from Brand New Day

Excerpt from Brand New Day Liner Notes: “… As a seasoned performer [Brian Horton] is still complimented with surprising frequency on his adeptness with the sort of blues-based vocabulary that discerning listeners find most approachable — most organic — and that younger players have supposedly forgotten. So it then becomes imperative to recognize that Horton has been delivering a distinct and forward-thinking blues — faithfully — for more than a decade now. And here again he illustrates his capacity to straddle generations of sound.” – Scott Heath, Writer, Professor, Cultural Theorist, Georgia State University
