PLEASE NOTE: Due to today’s weather forecast, we are moving today’s concert to the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S Brooks St, Wake Forest. Get directions to the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre

Christiane and the Strays have a wide range of musical interests, from bluegrass to alternative rock to neo-soul, and their music reflects that broad mix of influences in original songs and an array of often surprising covers resulting in an interesting and energetic take on Americana music. This year, they’re nominated for the Carolina Music Awards Americana/Bluegrass Artist of the Year. The band is also working on a new album, Waiting with the Lights On. Josh Kearns (mandolin) draws on mandolin influences of Sam Bush, Matt Flinner, John Reischman, and Adam Steffey overlaid on a musical backdrop of ’70s rockers like Led Zeppelin and Humble Pie; and Rachael Kearns (fiddle) blends old-time and bluegrass fiddle approaches on the five-string with fluidity while providing bell-like vocal harmonies.

Please park in the designated parking lot if space is available. Hundreds of area residents converge on Joyner Park during these popular events to take part in the festivities and enjoy the park’s wonderful amenities. Since parking is sometimes limited, area residents are encouraged to make plans with family members and friends to carpool, walk, or bike to Joyner Park. In addition, visitors should note parking is only permitted in the visitor parking lot or in the flat, grassy area at the park’s entrance.

Designated parking for people with disabilities is available in E Carroll Joyner Park’s parking lot.

For safety reasons, parking is NOT permitted along the entry road to Joyner Park. Overflow parking is also available at the Cottage at Olde Mill Stream, 901 Barnford Mill Road.

A variety of food and refreshments will be available to purchase at the park during the concerts, or you can bring your own picnic. Pets on leashes are welcome. Alcohol is not permitted in the park.

If you can’t make this concert, or you enjoy it and want to hear this band again in another setting, come to Pickin’ in the Plaza in downtown Raleigh on August 25, where you can also hear Fireside Collective (winners of the 2016 Merlefest Songwriting Contest) and local singer-songwriter Eric Scholz.
