Concert

The music of Senegal and Saxapahaw come together for one night only in Wake Forest: Diali Cissokho and Austin McCall bring you music to dance to this summer! A renowned korist and percussionist from Senegal, Diali Cissokho moved to the U.S. after years of performing and teaching in Senegal and in Europe. Born into a rich ancestry of Manding griots (the musician caste), Diali has been playing traditional West African music for as long as he can remember. While his greatest love is the kora, a 21-stringed African harp that is at the heart and soul of much West African music, he is also a passionate singer, songwriter, and percussionist. Crossing cultural boundaries with a wide range of sounds, from explosive dance rhythms to soothing hypnotic grooves, Diali brings an unparalleled virtuosity and unique personal style to this respected traditional art form. Austin McCall grew up in Saxapahaw listening to and playing blues, Afro-Cuban, jazz, and West African style musics. He has studied various styles of drum set and percussion with the influential teachings of Frank Worrell, Mama Kone, and the World.

Food and refreshments will be available for purchase from a variety of vendors. Concert goers may also bring their own picnic.

Pets on leashes are welcome. NOTE: Alcoholic beverages, along with gas and charcoal grills, are not allowed. Two large charcoal grills are provided on site. Park visitors are reminded that unleashed pets are also prohibited.

In the event of inclement weather, there will be no shortage of ways to find out whether the concert will be moved to the rain site. Updated concert information will be available by 3 p.m. on the day of the concert via PineCone’s e-newsletter and social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), on Wake Forest TV 10, or on the Town’s Facebook page, as well as the Facebook event page.
