In this workshop, participants will discuss how to properly support music using tools such as improvisation, dynamics, and groove. You will also explore how to use dynamics to bring energy to a song, how to improvise to make a musical conversation, and how to support a band with specific grooves. This workshop will show the bigger picture of being a drummer and most importantly being a musician.
Kurt Stracener is a multi-instrumentalist from Hickory, NC, now residing in Durham, NC. He has been playing drums since he was a child. He grew up playing in different bands throughout middle school and high school. Kurt started out playing rock music and later moved to playing blues, funk, and jazz. Right out of high school he had planned on attending music school, but then he stuck around western NC and began playing gigs with multiple bands in the area. Kurt played drums with The Harris Brothers, Mike Holstein, Shelby Rae Moore Band, and Tony Eltora. He currently plays with The Moon Unit, Mellow Swells, Simon Dunson Quartet and several other bands. He now lives in Durham where he teaches and makes music.
NOTE: This workshop will be recorded and distributed to registered attendees for use as a learning tool. A highlights video will be produced and shared to promote future workshops and events.
