Join PineCone and Bobby Britt for a fiddle workshop designed to provide some helpful tips and techniques for fiddlers of all levels. It will cover a variety of topics, including fundamental exercises to improve improvisation and rhythm. Although his background and playing are primarily roots oriented, the workshop will enrich the sound of fiddlers no matter what their musical style. Recognizable traditional fiddle tunes will be deployed to help students learn more about timing, improvisation, listening well, and technique. Students may also bring a fiddle tune of their choosing to the workshop. Time permitting, Bobby will work on it with them, answer questions, and provide specific playing suggestions. Whether you’ve just begun your fiddling journey or have been at it for years, Bobby’s workshop promises to be a creative and fun process for all.

According to peers like Grammy winner Jason Carter of the Del McCoury Band, “Bobby Britt is one of THE premier fiddlers going today. . .There are no limits to his playing. . .If you’re a fan of fiddle playing, you’ll enjoy Bobby’s playing anytime he draws a bow!”

Bobby started on the violin at age five and has never stopped in his pursuit of ever-higher levels of mastery. In high school, he experimented with all styles of music, from Miles Davis to Wu-Tang to the Grateful Dead. At 18, Bobby moved to Colorado, signing on with Rounder Recording Artists and becoming a member of the internationally acclaimed bluegrass band Open Road. A few years later, he. joined Asheville-based bluegrass/country/folk/rock band Town Mountain and has been an integral part of their sound ever since.

Bobby has thrived on stage performing at venues such as Rockygrass, Telluride, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Merlefest, Delfest, The Grand Ole Opry, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, just to name a few. While touring full time, Bobby also pursued further fiddle mastery by earning a degree at Berklee College of Music, studying under Darol Anger, Bruce Molsky, Matt Glaser, Jason Anick, Rob Thomas, Simon Shaheen, and being recognized with the Fletcher Bright Award.

Additionally, Bobby has done collaborative performances with members of Della Mae, Joe K. Walsh, and David Grisman Quintet veteran Grant Gordy; he has also released a highly-acclaimed solo album, Alaya (featuring members of Mandolin Orange).  He has also been nominated for a Grammy and won an IBMA Momentum Performer of the Year award.

When not on the road or in the studio, Bobby teaches fiddle lessons in person and online from his home in Boston, MA.  He’s had years of experience teaching workshops at festivals around the globe and enthusiastically provides music education to students of all ages and skill levels.  From a young age, Bobby has prided himself on an appreciation for all styles of music, and that broad approach creatively infuses his primarily bluegrass & roots playing with a unique and memorable sound.
