Harmonica 101 with Allie Lee

Wednesday, October 28, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
  • This event has passed.

Have you ever wanted to play the harmonica?  There is no better time than right now to get started!

You can play alone or with your quarantine buddies, it’s affordable with no strings to change, ever, and making music is fun! All you need is a “C” tuned harmonica and a good attitude.

  • The workshop will focus on “straight harp style” and will delve into “cross harp”/blues style as time and interest allow.
  • Some music theory understanding is helpful but not required; this is a perfect workshop for someone who loves music but has never played an instrument before.
  • Participants will learn how to play backup as well as melodies so that you can survive and thrive in jam sessions.
  • Participants will learn a process to help you work up to playing the melody of any song or tune by ear.

Allie Lee began playing harmonica in 2011 with her band The Whipstitch Sallies when the band’s lead player was unable to work one summer. Out of necessity, she picked up harmonica so that she and the bass player could create more musical texture in our songs. A former 7th grade language arts teacher, Allie has taught private guitar and banjo lessons, workshops, and camps. She’s a Wernick Method instructor, trained in teaching folks how to play in bluegrass jams. Since 2016, she has been playing harmonica (as well as guitar, banjo, and singing) with her husband Frank in the duo (cleverly named Frank & Allie Lee) and playing guitar and singing in The Freight Hoppers since 2016. Catch Frank & Allie in action and make plans to join us!

There will be time for Q&A after this workshop. Space is limited – reserve your spot today!

NOTE: This workshop will be recorded and distributed to registered attendees for use as a learning tool. A highlights video will be produced and shared to promote future workshops and events.
