By popular demand, PineCone favorites the Kruger Brothers are back! Renowned for their genre-defying musical collaborations with string ensembles, the Kruger Brothers return to the PineCone stage in Raleigh with the Kontras Quartet to share an evening celebrating the music of North Carolina and beyond. Kontras means contrasts in the Afrikaans language – fitting for a string ensemble whose colorful repertoire spans centuries, genres, and continents. Their collaboration with the Kruger Brothers bridges the line between classical music and American folk while drawing on diverse musical traditions to create original, exciting, inspiring performances that speak to people from around the world.
The Kruger Brothers were recently back in the studio with the Kontras Quartet to record their newest collaboration, The Roan Mountain Suite, which is due out on CD this spring; you can hear it LIVE in Raleigh at this concert! This will be only the second public performance of this new piece.
This original work was commissioned to honor the region, history, and legacy of Tennessee’s Roan Mountain. The Roan Mountain Suite honors the 50th anniversary of the inaugural meeting to conserve the Roan, an effort initiated by the late Stanley A. Murray, husband of patron Judy Murray, of Kingsport, TN. Dedicated to the memory of Stanley A. Murray (1923-1990), The Roan Mountain Suite is a musical experience honoring the treasured landscape of the region, and it is a vibrant new example of the Kruger Brothers’ brilliant ability to enlist the illustrative power of music to tell a story in eloquent detail.
