In 2017, Molly Tuttle made IBMA history by becoming the first woman to earn the Guitar Player of the Year title! She was also the first woman to be nominated in the Guitar Player of the Year category. And in February 2018, Tuttle won the Folk Alliance International Song of the Year Award for her tune “You Didn’t Call My Name.” The official video for the song premiered on the prestigious No Depression late in 2017. Earlier this year, Whippoorwill Arts/FreshGrass Artist Foundation announced that Tuttle is one of two grant recipients. This award celebrates musical accomplishments, extraordinary talent, community spirit, and creative souls. Influenced by the songwriting styles of Gillian Welch and Bob Dylan, Tuttle is a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist and award winning songwriter with a distinctive voice. She will be joined for this concert by an ensemble of equally talented musicians who back her up and support her unique voice and original songs. She was also nominated for IBMA’s Emerging Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year. Tuttle started flatpicking guitar at the age of 8 and performing on stage at the age of 11, and she released her first album at the age of 13. Since then, she’s appeared on A Prairie Home Companion and at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, and she has been featured on the cover of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine. She won the 2012 Chris Austin Songwriting Competition at Merlefest, and last year she earned one of International Bluegrass Music Association’s prestigious Momentum Awards in recognition of her instrumental prowess. The 25-year-old’s aptly titled new EP, Rise, debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Albums chart. Rooted in bluegrass but expanding the horizons of her musical genre, Tuttle’s dynamic style and drive shines through this EP. Written during a period of intense change that found Tuttle moving from California to Boston to Nashville, Rise covers a wide swath of ground, showing the full range of its maker’s abilities.
