Los De La A, a young band from Angier, plays regional Mexican Sierreño music. Their roots are Guanajuato, Jalisco and Nayarit. They perform at public and private events, with a repertoire ranging from corridos, rancheras, and cumbias to popular pop songs with their own twist to them.
In recent years, Sierreño—a variation of Norteño—has become a popular style among younger fans and musicians. Originally referred to as “campirano,” Sierreño is a style of Norteño common to more rural regions of Mexico. It is typically performed with a group of instruments consisting of a 12-string playing “melodía” and a 6-string guitar or “armonía,” accompanied by an instrument taking on bass duties, such as a sousaphone, tuba, or accordian. Other Sierreño groups can also have two acoustic guitars (a Bajo Sexto and a Bajo Quinto), and either a tuba or bass guitar.
