Alice Gerrard will be teaching tunes of Galax fiddler Luther Davis (1887-1986). He was a keeper of the old tunes and a lyrical player deeply rooted in the Southwest Virginia fiddling tradition. Alice spent a lot of time visiting, recording and playing with Luther.
The workshop will be geared towards intermediate and advanced fiddlers, but Alice says guitarists are welcome too as she says, “…there’s some interesting things happening with the guitar on these tunes.”
Registration: $30 for members; $35 for general public
Riparian Provision Company, 1408 South Saunders St, Raleigh, NC
An open old time jam will follow the workshop. All are welcome!
