Smt. Mytreyi Aravind (more known as S.R.Mytreyi) will perform a South Indian classical vocal music concert with accompaniment by Gowri Srinivas (veena) and Karthick Narayanan (mridangam). S.R.Mytreyi is a disciple of “Padma Bhushan” “Sangeetha Kala Acharya” “Kalaimamani” Sri P.S. Narayanaswami and “Kalaimamani” Dr Rukmini Ramani. Mytreyi has been trained in her art for more than 23 years, and she has been performing this art for about 15 years. She is an”A” graded artiste of the All India Radio. This year’s Music of the Carolinas series is highlighting Millennial Traditional Artists from a new project from the Folklife Program of the North Carolina Arts Council. This directory highlights next generation traditional artists from the mountains, Piedmont, and coastal plains of North Carolina.

Mytreyi was sown the seeds of Carnatic Music at a very tender age. She hails from a family of attorneys and great connoisseurs of music. Her father Sri S R Ramkrushna Sastry was a disciple of “Sangeetha Kalanidhi” Late Sri D. K. Jayaraman. Mytreyi’s quest for music is limitless and she desires to innovate while keeping traditions alive and intact. She has performed in several prestigious platforms around the world, including The Music Academy (Chennai), Sri Shanmukananda Sangeetha Sabha (Mumbai), Kamani Auditorium (New Delhi), Chhandayan(New York), Shrutilaya (New York), Sri Ramana Ashram (New York), Karnatik and Hindustani Music Council (Massachusetts), North Jersey Music Lovers (NJML),Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (Singapore,) and places in Norway and Denmark. She has earned prizes in music from several organizations of international repute, such as The Music Academy (Chennai), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Madras), and the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR, Hyderabad), to name a few. She was invited by the Montclair State University (NJ) in fall 2012 to deliver a lecture demonstration on the 72 Melakartha ragas (scales) in Carnatic music. She also performed for theTamil graduation festival conducted by the Government of Norway in the year 2010. Besides these, Mytreyi has performed around 100 concerts in several parts of India, including the Chennai December Music Festival.

Reserve your ticket in advance! Even though this event is free to attend, tickets are required, as seating is limited. PLEASE NOTE: If you reserve your ticket ahead of time and have not checked in at the auditorium by the time the doors open (2:45 p.m.), your seat may be released so someone else can attend the event. Some tickets will also be available at the Museum the day of the event – please visit the information table outside Daniels Auditorium beginning at 2 p.m. on the show date. A ramp from Edenton St provides access to the Museum’s main entrance. A ramp is also available from Jones St. and the entrance from Fletcher Garden. Wheelchairs for interior use are available free of charge at the Museum information desk. The Museum entrance closest to the auditorium is a staircase that leads up to glass doors on Edenton St.
