Shape Note Singers to Perform During SPARKcon

Among the array of events planned for the 10th Annual SPARKcon in downtown Raleigh, scheduled for Sept. 17-20 this year, the Shape Note Singers will sing on Saturday, Sept. 19 beginning at 1 p.m. in the City of Raleigh Museum's exhibit gallery. One of last year's NC Heritage Award recipients, potter Sid Luck, will also participate in the day's events with pottery wheel demonstrations. There will be other living history demonstrations and musical performances throughout the day as well.

Enhanced Banjostand to Return as Part of 2015 World of Bluegrass

Bland Hoke's Banjostand, which made its debut appearance in Raleigh during the 2014 World of Bluegrass, returns to Raleigh this year with additional enhancements, including enhanced lighting, a "prop shop," and a photographer on-site to photograph participants in costume with the installation. Funding is provided by the City's Office of Raleigh Arts.

Folkstreams Seeking Donations to Bring "A Singing Stream" to UNC-TV in February

"A Singing Stream: Reunion," sequel to the award-winning 1985 film A Singing Stream: A Black Family Chronicle, debuted last year at the Landis family’s 80th reunion in Durham, and now the producers – family members with help from Virginia-based non-profit Folkstreams and PineCone – are looking to share their films on UNC-TV, the Triangle region’s public television station, in February 2016 as part of Black History Month.

Hot Rize's Nick Forster Announced as 2015 World of Bluegrass Keynote Speaker

PineCone Youth Council Members to Perform at Earl Scruggs Center

State of North Carolina to Honor the Achievements of Balsam Range

Multi-award-winning acoustic band Balsam Range, one of the bands on the lineup for this year's Wide Open Bluegrass Main Stage on Friday, Oct. 2, will receive official praise from both the House and Senate of the State of North Carolina on Wednesday, June 10, 2015. A reception and live performance will begin at noon at the Legislative Building, 16 W.
