PineCone Staff
David Brower
Executive Director - David grew up in the Piedmont and was drawn to the authentic voices of old-time, bluegrass and folk music played by everyday people. A desire to share that music led him to a career in public radio where he worked as a host, music director, NPR contributor and most recently as program director for North Carolina Public Radio WUNC. He loves fiddle tunes, good coffee, college basketball and his family which is remarkably tolerant of banjo jokes.
Stacy Chandler
Communications Manager - Stacy is responsible for PineCone's marketing and communications, including advertising, e-newsletters, website content, and social media. She previously was assistant editor of the roots music magazine No Depression and remains an occasional contributor. She was the 2022 winner of the Rolling Stone Chet Flippo Award for Excellence in Country Music Journalism and is a three-time nominee for IBMA Writer of the Year. Earlier in her career, she was a newspaper copy editor, including at the Raleigh News & Observer.
Sara Schwartz
Membership and Community Programs Coordinator - Sara handles membership and the PineCone box office and oversees our participatory and outreach activities, including facilitated jams, workshops, youth camps, and community square dances. Prior to joining PineCone, Sara spent 8 years as the festival director for the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival and worked for Sugar Hill Records and the Regulator Bookshop in Durham. Sara has also been a stage manager at PineCone’s bluegrass festival.
Ann Sides
